Marinate Meat in Freezer Bags for Double-Duty Prep

The Problem

Marinating takes 2-8 hours of fridge space and planning ahead. By the time you remember, it's dinner time.

The Hack

Place raw chicken, steak, or pork in a freezer bag with your marinade. Squeeze out air, seal flat, and freeze. The meat marinates as it freezes and again as it thaws — double marinating time.

Why It Works

The freezing process actually opens up the meat's cellular structure slightly (ice crystal formation), allowing the marinade to penetrate deeper than traditional refrigerator marinating.

Pro Tips

  • Thaw in the fridge overnight — by dinner time it's deeply marinated
  • Make 5 different marinades on Sunday — variety all week
  • Teriyaki, Italian herb, fajita, honey garlic, and lemon herb are the top 5
  • Raw marinated bags last 3-4 months in the freezer
