Use a PIN or Biometric Lock on Your Phone

The Problem

Your phone has no lock screen. Anyone who picks it up has access to your email, banking, photos, and messages.

The Hack

Set up Face ID, fingerprint, or at minimum a 6-digit PIN. iPhone: Settings > Face ID & Passcode. Android: Settings > Security > Screen Lock.

Why It Works

Your phone contains: email, banking apps, personal photos, messages, saved passwords, and payment methods. It's the single most sensitive device you own.

Pro Tips

  • 6-digit PIN minimum — 4-digit is too easy to guess
  • Biometric (face/fingerprint) is most convenient and secure
  • Set auto-lock to 30 seconds or 1 minute
  • Also enable 'Erase after 10 failed attempts' if available
