Use Shower Caps to Cover Shoe Soles

The Problem

Dirty shoe soles touch your clean clothes. Everything in the bag gets grimy.

The Hack

Grab a free shower cap from the hotel bathroom. Slip it over the sole of each shoe before packing. Keeps dirt contained.

Why It Works

Shower caps are elastic, waterproof, and perfectly shaped for shoe soles. They create a clean barrier between dirty soles and your packed clothing — and they're free from every hotel.

Pro Tips

  • Grab 2-3 shower caps from your hotel each trip
  • Also works: plastic grocery bags rubber-banded around shoes
  • Pack shoes sole-to-sole in the center of your suitcase
  • Shoes along the suitcase edges near the wheels is most space-efficient
