Check Tire Pressure Before Every Long Drive

The Problem

You never check tire pressure. Your tires might be 10 psi low — unsafe and wasteful.

The Hack

Check all 4 tires (plus spare) before any trip over 100 miles. The correct PSI is on the driver's door jamb sticker, NOT on the tire sidewall. Use a $3 gauge or free air at gas stations.

Why It Works

Under-inflated tires increase rolling resistance (wasting gas), generate more heat (risk of blowout), and wear unevenly (shorter tire life). 1 PSI low = 0.3% reduced fuel efficiency.

Pro Tips

  • Correct PSI is on the door jamb sticker — usually 32-35 PSI
  • Check when tires are cold (before driving)
  • $3 tire gauge at any auto parts store
  • Most gas stations have free air — check pressure and fill as needed
