Check the CarFax AND Do a Physical Inspection

The Problem

You relied on 'clean CarFax' but the car had undisclosed problems. CarFax isn't complete.

The Hack

Pull a CarFax report ($40 or free from many dealers). Then ALSO check physically: mismatched paint, uneven panel gaps, new bolts on old parts, and tire wear patterns.

Why It Works

CarFax captures reported accidents and title issues — but not unreported ones. Physical signs like paint overspray, misaligned body panels, and different-colored paint reveal unreported damage.

Pro Tips

  • CarFax is necessary but NOT sufficient
  • Check for: paint color mismatches between panels
  • Run your hand along body panels — ripples indicate body filler (previous damage)
  • Also check: autocheck.com for a second opinion report
