Unshrink Clothes with Baby Shampoo

The Problem

Your favorite sweater or shirt shrunk in the wash. You think it's ruined forever.

The Hack

Fill a sink with lukewarm water and 1 tablespoon of baby shampoo. Submerge the shrunk garment for 30 minutes. Gently stretch it back to size on a flat towel. Air dry.

Why It Works

Baby shampoo relaxes the interlocked fibers that tightened during shrinking. The gentle stretching while fibers are relaxed reshapes the garment closer to its original size.

Pro Tips

  • Works best on wool, cotton, and cashmere
  • Don't wring — gently squeeze out water
  • Stretch evenly in all directions
  • May not fully restore heavily shrunk items but improves significantly
