Use White Vinegar as Fabric Softener

The Problem

Commercial fabric softeners cost $6-10, coat clothes in waxy chemicals, and reduce towel absorbency over time.

The Hack

Add 1/2 cup white vinegar to the fabric softener dispenser or add during the rinse cycle. Your clothes won't smell like vinegar after drying.

Why It Works

Vinegar dissolves detergent residue and mineral deposits that make fabric stiff. It softens naturally without the waxy coating of commercial softeners.

Pro Tips

  • No vinegar smell remains after drying
  • Vinegar actually makes towels MORE absorbent
  • Costs about $0.05 per load vs $0.25 for softener
  • Also removes musty odors from gym clothes
