Wash Jeans Inside Out to Prevent Fading

The Problem

Your dark jeans fade after just a few washes, looking worn and washed out within months.

The Hack

Turn jeans completely inside out before putting them in the washer. Wash on cold, gentle cycle. Hang to dry or tumble dry low.

Why It Works

Washing machines agitate fabric against itself and the drum. Turning inside out means the interior takes the friction wear instead of the visible exterior dye.

Pro Tips

  • Wash jeans every 3-5 wears, not after every wear
  • Cold water only — hot accelerates fading
  • Hang dry is best for denim longevity
  • Add 1/2 cup white vinegar to the first wash of new jeans to set the dye
