Dryer Sheets Repel Mosquitoes Outdoors

The Problem

Mosquitoes love you specifically. Bug spray is greasy and smells terrible.

The Hack

Rub a dryer sheet on exposed skin or tuck one into a pocket, belt loop, or under your hat brim. Replace every hour.

Why It Works

Dryer sheets contain linalool, a naturally occurring compound also found in lavender and basil. Studies show linalool repels mosquitoes and gnats effectively.

Pro Tips

  • Won't last as long as DEET but is much more pleasant
  • Tuck in stroller or baby carrier to protect kids without chemicals
  • Rub on outdoor furniture cushions too
  • Works for gnats and no-see-ums as well
