Steel Wool Blocks Mice from Entering

The Problem

Mice squeeze through gaps as small as a dime. They enter around pipes, vents, and foundation cracks.

The Hack

Locate gaps where pipes enter walls and around exterior vents. Stuff coarse steel wool tightly into each gap. Seal over with caulk for a permanent fix.

Why It Works

Mice can chew through wood, foam, and even soft metals, but steel wool fibers shred their mouths — they won't chew through it.

Pro Tips

  • Check under kitchen and bathroom sinks first
  • Also check where utility lines enter the house
  • Copper mesh is an alternative that won't rust
  • Combine with caulk for a permanent, clean seal
