Keep Cutting Board from Sliding with a Damp Towel

The Problem

Your cutting board slides around while you're chopping. It's annoying at best and dangerous at worst.

The Hack

Dampen a paper towel or kitchen cloth and lay it flat on the counter. Place your cutting board on top.

Why It Works

The damp surface creates friction between the counter and cutting board, eliminating any sliding or rocking. This is the first thing every culinary school teaches.

Pro Tips

  • This is a professional chef technique used in every restaurant kitchen
  • Works on any counter surface — granite, laminate, butcher block
  • A silicone shelf liner works even better as a permanent solution
  • The towel also catches drips that would normally run under the board
