Use Back Tap for Quick Actions on iPhone

The Problem

You fumble through menus for common actions. Quick access would save time.

The Hack

Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap. Assign double-tap and triple-tap to any action: Screenshot, Flashlight, Camera, Shazam, or any Shortcut.

Why It Works

The iPhone's accelerometer detects specific tap patterns on the back of the device and maps them to actions. It works even with a case on.

Pro Tips

  • Double-tap for flashlight is the most popular assignment
  • Triple-tap for screenshot is incredibly useful
  • Works through most phone cases
  • You can assign Siri Shortcuts for custom automations
