Change Your WiFi Channel to Reduce Interference

The Problem

Your WiFi is slow in the evening when everyone's home. Too many networks competing.

The Hack

Download WiFi Analyzer (Android) or use your router's admin page. Check which channels are crowded. Switch to the least used channel (1, 6, or 11 for 2.4GHz).

Why It Works

WiFi channels are like highway lanes. If everyone's on channel 6, it's congested. Moving to channel 1 or 11 gives you a clear lane with less interference.

Pro Tips

  • For 2.4GHz: only use channels 1, 6, or 11 — they don't overlap
  • 5GHz has many more channels and less congestion
  • Access your router at 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1
  • Apartment buildings benefit most from this optimization
