Place Your Router in the Center of Your Home

The Problem

WiFi is great in the living room but dead in the bedroom. You bought a $200 router and it didn't help.

The Hack

Move your router to the most central location in your home. Elevate it (shelf or wall-mount). Keep away from metal objects, microwaves, and thick walls.

Why It Works

WiFi signals radiate outward in all directions. A router in the corner wastes half its signal outside. Center placement gives equal coverage to all rooms.

Pro Tips

  • Elevated position (5-6 feet high) is better than floor level
  • Keep away from: microwaves, metal shelving, concrete walls, fish tanks
  • Don't hide it in a closet or cabinet — it blocks signal
  • Central hallway is usually the best placement
