Leave Early Morning to Avoid Traffic and Gain Time

The Problem

You leave at 10 AM, hit traffic, and arrive exhausted at 6 PM. The drive took 2 hours longer than it should.

The Hack

Set departure for 5-6 AM. Load the car the night before. Kids (and passengers) sleep for the first 2-3 hours. You hit zero traffic and arrive 1-2 hours earlier.

Why It Works

Morning traffic is minimal before 7 AM. Early departure also means cooler temperatures, less construction activity, and fresher drivers. Kids sleeping through boring highway hours is a bonus.

Pro Tips

  • Load the car completely the night before
  • Kids in pajamas — they sleep in the car and change at first stop
  • Coffee thermos and breakfast packed for the driver
  • The first 2-3 hours of empty highway are peaceful and fast
