Time Your Purchase: Buy at End of Month, Quarter, or Year

The Problem

You buy whenever you're ready. The dealership has no incentive to negotiate.

The Hack

Shop the last 3-5 days of the month (salespeople need to hit quota), last week of the quarter (dealer volume bonuses), or last week of December (annual clearance). Discounts are deepest when they NEED to sell.

Why It Works

Dealerships and salespeople have monthly, quarterly, and annual volume targets with bonuses. Missing by one car costs them thousands in bonuses — they'll discount heavily to hit the number.

Pro Tips

  • Last day of the month: maximum urgency
  • December 26-31: biggest discounts of the year (annual quota + model year clearance)
  • September-November: current model year clearance for incoming new models
  • Monday-Wednesday: less traffic means more attention and willingness to deal

Negotiate the 'Out the Door' Price — Not the Sticker Price

Always negotiate the TOTAL price including all fees. Dealers add $500-2,000 in hidden charges after you agree on sticker.
