Reverse Ceiling Fan Direction for Winter
The Problem
Heat rises to the ceiling where it does nothing. Your heating system works harder while you're cold.
The Hack
Find the small switch on the side of the fan motor housing. Flip it so blades run clockwise (looking up). Run on low speed.
Why It Works
Clockwise rotation creates an updraft that pushes warm ceiling air down the walls and back into the room without creating a breeze.
Pro Tips
- Run on LOW speed — you shouldn't feel wind
- Switch back to counter-clockwise in summer
- This works in rooms with ceilings up to 12 feet
- Saves 10-15% on heating costs
