Measure Sticky Ingredients by Spraying the Cup First
The Problem
You measure a cup of honey and half stays stuck to the measuring cup. You scrape and lose your patience.
The Hack
Give the inside of your measuring cup a quick spray of cooking oil spray before adding honey, maple syrup, peanut butter, or molasses. The sticky ingredient slides right out.
Why It Works
Oil creates a hydrophobic barrier between the sticky substance and the cup surface. Since honey and syrups are water-based, they won't bond to an oiled surface.
Pro Tips
- Works for measuring spoons too — spray before measuring
- A dab of regular cooking oil on a paper towel works if you don't have spray
- Also prevents molasses and corn syrup from sticking
- You'll get a more accurate measurement because nothing stays behind
