Uninstall Bloatware to Speed Up a New PC

The Problem

Your brand-new laptop is already slow. It's full of trialware and manufacturer bloatware.

The Hack

Windows: Settings > Apps > Installed Apps. Uninstall everything you don't recognize or need: McAfee trial, manufacturer utilities, games, toolbars.

Why It Works

Bloatware runs in the background, consuming RAM, CPU, and disk I/O even if you never open it. Removing it frees resources for apps you actually use.

Pro Tips

  • Common bloatware: McAfee/Norton trial, Candy Crush, manufacturer 'helper' apps
  • Keep: drivers, Windows Defender (it's good enough), Microsoft Office if included
  • Don't uninstall things you're unsure about — Google the name first
  • A clean Windows install with only your apps is noticeably faster
