Check Who's Using Your WiFi and Kick Freeloaders

The Problem

Your internet is slower than it should be. A neighbor might be using your WiFi.

The Hack

Open a browser and go to 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 (your router's admin page). Find 'Connected Devices' or 'Client List.' Review every device.

Why It Works

Unauthorized users consume your bandwidth and potentially access your network. Identifying unknown devices lets you change your password and block them.

Pro Tips

  • Default router login is usually admin/admin or admin/password
  • Count your devices: phones, laptops, tablets, smart home devices
  • Anything you don't recognize — change your WiFi password
  • Enable WPA3 encryption if your router supports it
