Pause WiFi for Kids' Devices at Bedtime

The Problem

Kids are on their devices until midnight. Taking phones away creates fights.

The Hack

Log into your router's admin page. Find Parental Controls or Access Scheduling. Set kids' devices to lose internet access at bedtime and regain it in the morning.

Why It Works

Router-level controls work regardless of what device or app the child uses. They can't be bypassed from the device itself because the router blocks the connection.

Pro Tips

  • Most modern routers have built-in scheduling
  • Eero, Google Nest, and Netgear all have easy parental apps
  • Block by device MAC address — works for all apps and browsers
  • Schedule: internet off at 9 PM, on at 7 AM for school nights
