Test Your Actual Internet Speed with Speedtest.net

The Problem

You pay for 200 Mbps but everything feels slow. Is it your WiFi or your ISP?

The Hack

Go to speedtest.net or fast.com. Click 'Go.' It measures your actual download and upload speeds. Compare to what your ISP plan promises.

Why It Works

Speed tests measure real-world performance between your device and a nearby server. If results are significantly below your plan speed, your ISP is underdelivering or your equipment is limiting.

Pro Tips

  • Test on wired connection (Ethernet) for ISP accuracy
  • WiFi speeds are always lower than wired — that's normal
  • If wired speed matches your plan, your WiFi is the bottleneck
  • If wired is slow too, call your ISP — you're not getting what you pay for
