Use 5GHz WiFi for Speed, 2.4GHz for Range

The Problem

You're connected to WiFi but it's slow for streaming. Or you're on 5GHz and it drops in far rooms.

The Hack

Check your WiFi network names. If you see 'YourNetwork' and 'YourNetwork-5G,' connect to 5G for speed when close to the router, and the regular one for range.

Why It Works

5GHz provides up to 1,300 Mbps but shorter range. 2.4GHz provides up to 600 Mbps but penetrates walls better and reaches farther.

Pro Tips

  • 5GHz: fast, short range — best near the router
  • 2.4GHz: slower, long range — best for far rooms and IoT devices
  • Most modern routers broadcast both simultaneously
  • Rename them clearly: 'Home-Fast' and 'Home-Far' for easy selection
