Use a Microfiber Towel — Never Paper Towels — on Paint

The Problem

You dry your car with old towels or paper towels. Your paint has swirl marks everywhere.

The Hack

Use only microfiber towels on paint: for drying, applying wax, removing wax, and quick detailing. Never use bath towels, paper towels, or old t-shirts.

Why It Works

Microfiber has millions of tiny fibers that lift and trap dirt particles. Paper towels and cotton drag dirt across the surface, creating scratches. Microfiber is the single most important detailing tool.

Pro Tips

  • Buy a 10-pack of microfiber towels: $10-15
  • Separate towels: one for drying, one for wax, one for interior
  • Wash microfiber separately with no fabric softener — it clogs the fibers
  • Replace when they stop feeling soft or start pilling
