Use Toothpaste to Remove Minor Paint Scratches

The Problem

Light scratches on your car's paint from shopping carts, keys, and bushes.

The Hack

Apply a dab of white (not gel) toothpaste to a damp microfiber cloth. Rub in circular motions over the scratch for 60 seconds. Wipe clean. Repeat if needed. Wax the area after.

Why It Works

Toothpaste contains mild abrasives designed to polish enamel. These same abrasives gently polish automotive clear coat, leveling the edges of light scratches so they disappear.

Pro Tips

  • White paste only — not gel, not colored
  • Works on CLEAR COAT scratches — not deep paint scratches
  • If your fingernail catches in the scratch, it's too deep for this method
  • Follow with wax to protect the polished area
