Upgrade Instant Ramen with One Egg and Vegetables

The Problem

Instant ramen is cheap but basically just carbs and sodium. You eat it and feel terrible.

The Hack

Cook ramen as normal. In the last 2 minutes, add a handful of frozen vegetables (mixed Asian vegetables work great). In the last minute, crack an egg directly into the broth and stir gently.

Why It Works

The egg adds 6g protein and the vegetables add fiber, vitamins, and bulk. A $0.35 package of ramen becomes a $0.50 balanced meal instead of empty calories.

Pro Tips

  • Drizzle sesame oil and sriracha for restaurant-level flavor
  • Add leftover cooked chicken or tofu for even more protein
  • Frozen spinach, corn, and peas all work great
  • Use only half the seasoning packet to cut sodium in half
