Store Green Onions in Water Like Flowers

The Problem

Green onions go slimy in the bag within 3-4 days. You use half and throw away the rest.

The Hack

Trim the root ends slightly, place root-down in a glass or jar with an inch of water. Cover tops loosely with a plastic bag, refrigerate. Change water every 2-3 days.

Why It Works

The roots continue to absorb water and nutrients, keeping the stalks crisp and alive. They'll actually grow new green shoots.

Pro Tips

  • They'll regrow 2-3 times before losing flavor
  • Works on a windowsill at room temp too — even faster growth
  • Also works with cilantro, parsley, and basil stems
  • One bunch of green onions can last a month this way
